YOU
ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
It is only natural to wonder when
writing out a check or forking over cash to a charity whether
your hard earned dollars or pesos are going to really make our
world a better place. Have no such doubts about Becas Vallarta,
A. C. (America-Mexico Foundation, Inc.)! Recent notes from
several present and former scholarship students are testament to
the success of our program. Meet a few good guys and gals whom
you have helped in a very personal way:
José
Guadalupe Carrillo Soto (Lupe), now 22, was awarded his first
scholarship in 1997 when he entered junior high at Secundaria
Técnica #84, Colonia Buenos Aires. Now he is in his final year
of Odontology at the University of Nayarit. His work ethic,
attitude and ready smile made him a favorite of those in the
foundation from the beginning. He pursued his goal with a
diligence that allowed no setbacks to deter him. He recently
wrote, "The support I have received and am still receiving puts
me only one step away from making my dreams of becoming a
professional and being able to serve the society through my
knowledge and my profession come true." He added, "I want to
thank every member of Becas Vallarta for supporting and opening
doors to all of us scholarship students and I thank God for
sending such angels with great spirits as the Becas Vallarta
Members." He signed his little note, "Proud scholarship student
of Becas Vallarta!"
José Apolonio Avalos Grano, now
28, noted he was born on Los Lobos ranch in the mountains
near Talpa de Allende, where his father was a farmer and his
mother a housewife. There were eight children in the family,
five boys and three girls. He started working at the age of 12
so that he could continue his education. When he entered junior
high at Secundaria Técnica #84, Col. Buenos Aires, he earned a
scholarship with Becas Vallarta. At that time he also began to
work after school for Judy de Galeana, a long time member of
Becas and continued to work for her throughout his educational
career, even through university. In his own touching words, "I
love this member very much as she has helped me to continue my
education and I consider her like a second mother. I graduated
as a lawyer in 2005 and I feel very proud to have made my dream
come true thanks to Becas Vallarta!"
Rosalba
García Rufino (Rosi) graduated in September of this year with
the degree Licenciatura en Derecho (degree in Law). This petite
young lady, whose mother and father are both vendors on Los
Muertos Beach, bubbles with enthusiasm for her work. She is
currently doing her year of social service, required of all
graduates of Mexico's public universities, in the penal
institution north of Vallarta. She thinks she has found her
life's work there and hopes they will let her stay after
completing her service. Her note is worth quoting, "I'm a very
proud scholarship student, thanks to those people of great heart
who form the Scholarship Committee, I have achieved the biggest
of my dreams! Thanks to them I have the best tool to get ahead,
to be a woman who will benefit our society, to be a support for
my family and to set an example for my siblings- - -that tool is
my career. I am a lawyer. I can say that with great pride and
happiness. I have no words to express my feelings toward the
Comité de Becas Vallarta, except these - - - Thank you very much
with all my heart!"
Eligio Flores Salcedo (Liko) just
graduated from Puerto Vallarta's branch of the University of
Guadalajara as an Engineer in Telemática. He was able to
continue studying after elementary school because he earned a
Becas Vallarta scholarship when he entered junior high and
continued with the scholarship through senior high. When he
entered the university, he found good employment. In his own
words, "I decided to give up my scholarship because I was
already working and I could afford to pay for my education.
That way my scholarship would be available for someone else who
needed it to continue his or her studies. I am very thankful to
Becas Vallarta because thanks to their support, I am now a
professional!" Liko is indeed a professional. He is manager of
the entire computer system at the local Ford Motor Dealership.
