Azafrán Review in the Dining Out Guide
Situated on one of Vallarta's prettiest streets is this deli café with more than just sandwiches and salads. Here you have it: gourmet burritos.
Welcome to Azafrán. Please arrive hungry, because here there have a variety of flavors that you will not want to miss (don’t worry; in this deli, all of their dishes are light). To awaken your appetite, order roasted peppers, rolled up with pesto goat cheese. Review the extensive menu while you sip a cool beverage.
From the appetizers to the coffee, the menu is an international tour: hummus, Venezuelan arepas (cornbread), Thai and Greek salads, samosas from India, Nordic and Mediterranean sandwiches, Spanish tortilla (omelet), and of course cappuccino.
The specialty are the wraps or gourmet burritos: burrito Mediterrráneo (roasted vegetables, lettuce, tomato, and pesto), burrito Tailandés (rice noodles, vegetables, and peanut sauce), and burrito Curri Verde (rice, vegetables, and green curry with coconut milk); all of the creations are from the proprietor, the chef María G. Abad, who with her gift for flavor, like King Midas, what she touches tastes delicious.
The place is small but very warm. María and Marcos will personally attend to you everyday. This café has space for 30 or so people and two tables outside for a couple or a trio of friends. Amongst their minimalist decoration, the bar is the center of attention; if you just pass this way, don’t hesitate to stop by for a minute and while you wait for your take out order, get a cup of fresh ground coffee (from the Jalisco mountains). Taking advantage of route, Azafrán is an obligatory stop during the Art Walk and sometimes they even have art exhibits.
