BeBotero Bar Review in the Nightlife Guide

In BeBotero, rock rules. The atmosphere is quite informal and unwound. There are no fancy pretensions here on behalf of the crowd. Neither from the bar staff. And that’s mighty welcome. It’s more like the typical place to go with friends and have fun. It’s that simple.

Maybe that’s why the BeBotero chain is so popular in the center of the country, it’s place of origin. They also have to very busy places set up in Tlaquepaque and Guadalajara.

In Vallarta, the bar is located at the foot of the malecón, on a ground level. It’s a privileged location for the view of the malecón and, to the distance, of the hotel zone, the marina and neighboring hot spots. Get there early if you want a table on one of the balconies. If you don’t get one, don’t worry; you’ll have little time to catch a glimpse on the passersby below. The action is inside.

Starting at 10:30pm, the nights are entertained by Hangar, a quintet that plays covers in English and Spanish. From Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Inspector to El Tri, Molotov or La Cuca. They do rounds of about 45 minutes, then a break and some recorded tunes to keep you dancing, then the group returns. This is music for true and nostalgic rock and roll fans.

In the heat of the night, the band really gets rolling. It’s not unheard of for two or three spontaneous customers to get up from their tables (or on to them) and start moving to the rhythmic ska beat. The crowd really turns on; even the waiters, clothed in yellow shirts, stop a moment to strut their stuff, a la “Full Monty”; definitely worthy of a Kodak moment.

The beers keep on coming, as if money was no object. The girls seem anxious, as if looking to hook up. The guys rehearse pick-up lines on each trip to the bathroom. The place ends up being ideal to start one’s night, sort of to “start up your engines”.

Portly portraits of famous recording artists, sports and movie stars give the decoration its distinctive touch. Maradonas, Fridas, Travoltas, Sub Marcos, Lennons, among others. All chubby and blushing, like in the paintings of Colombian Fernando Botero.

The crowd is pretty much diverse, from about 25 to 30. Still, you can find some fortysomethings having a night out or a group of crazy high-schoolers. In any way, if music at high decibels is your thing or if you’re looking for a casual atmosphere for your nocturnal fun, give this place try, an import from the state capital.
