Patrick Denoun Review in the Art Guide

Patrick Denoun’s artwork is the material evocation of an image collection gathered through his trips, recreated on a playful canvas of light and shade.

The author’s memories tell about, as a whole, a visual passage through India, Thailand, Bali, Morocco, northern Africa and Mexico, this last one being visited by Denoun on several occasions since 1976, until he decided to stay in Puerto Vallarta definitely in 1985.

They describe a great variety of similarities that the author finds in the natural world; forms of life, colors, flavors, fauna, horizons and solar light. Simple things in life, discovered through his journeys, are the source from which his topics originate: women weaving wool and transforming it into fabrics full of color; artisans designing pots with clay; inhabitants of high mountains that appear at the markets to sell their fruits. “Terrestrial beings” as they are best described by the author. “I’d rather express myself thorough the Eden we have on Earth; to protect this life, the trees, the plants, the people.

Patrick Denoun, Paris (1950) studied different aesthetic techniques at the famous French Art Academy of Boulle, where he enrolled when he was seventeen years old after becoming part of a group of 160 students chosen among three thousand applicants. It was here where he got specialized in wood sculpture.

After a few years working as a sculptor he decided to go back to painting and inks. Patrick and his wife Katherine lived for a few months in Saint Tropez, France. His work was exhibited in an annual circuit in Geneva, Brussels, Zurich, Paris, Lyon and Lugarno. For the last two decades, his artwork has been present in French, American, Australian and Indian galleries.
